Yorba Linda is an affluent suburb in Orange County, California. With a population of less than 70 thousand, it has a friendly, genuine small-town feel. There's no need to forgo the benefits of big-city living, though; Yorba Linda is a mere 40 miles away from downtown Los Angeles.Established on land that was originally populated by Luiseno, Tongva, and Juaneño Indians, the town was named for Bernardo Yorba, the son of a Spanish soldier, who received over thirteen thousand acres of land from the governor of Mexico in 1834. Parts of Yorba Linda are still owned by the Yorba family.
Yearly temperatures average in the low sixties, ranging from mid-fifties in winter to low seventies in summer, with moderate humidity. The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District includes several schools that have received the California Distinguished School award. Famous for its citrus groves and avocado trees, the town is the site of the Don Bernardo Yorba Hacienda, a California Historical Landmark that built in 1835 (and since destroyed) and the adjoining cemetery which is currently under restoration.
It's also the hometown of former President Richard Nixon, and the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. Dedicated in 1990, the museum contains extensive documents from the National Archives. For the equestrian, Yorba Linda also has dozens of horse trails that run for 100 miles through its scenic hills. The two largest employers are CareFusion and Nobel Biocare, both medical technology companies, and the town is within convenient commuting distance of Santa Ana and Los Angeles.
